Learn when an E-Way bill is mandatory, how to enter Part A & Part B vehicle details, and how to upload bulk JSON invoices directly to ewaybillgst.gov.in.
An Electronic Way Bill (E-Way Bill) is a compliance document generated on the GST portal for the movement of goods worth more than ₹50,000. Moving consignments without a valid E-Way bill can lead to goods detention and a penalty equal to 100% of the tax payable.
1. When is an E-Way Bill Mandatory?
An E-Way Bill must be generated before the commencement of movement of goods in the following scenarios:
- Whenever the consignment value exceeds ₹50,000 (taxable value + taxes).
- In some states like Delhi, Maharashtra, and Bihar, specific higher limits apply for intra-state transit.
- Mandatory even for consignments under ₹50,000 in case of inter-state movement of handicraft goods or goods sent for job work.
2. Part-A vs Part-B of an E-Way Bill
An E-Way bill consists of two essential parts:
- Part A: Contains the consignor and consignee GSTIN, dispatch and delivery addresses, invoice number, date, item value, HSN codes, and reason for transport.
- Part B (Transporter Details): Vehicle registration number (for road transport) or RR/Airway Bill/Bill of Lading number (for rail/air/ship).
An E-Way bill is only valid for transport once both Part A and Part B are filled, unless the distance is under 50 km within the same state between the sender and the transporter.
